  • 8th Annual Chestnut Restoration Celebration
    Saturday, October 14, 2017, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
    Location:Glenn C. Price Research Laboratory in Meadowview, VA
    Celebrate Fall! Take a hayride, sipped some cider, and indulged in a few roasted chestnuts! See the expansion of resources at the Research Farm where blight resistant trees are being developed for restoration of the American chestnut to our forests.
    Potentially-blight resistant chestnut seedlings will be raffled along with merchandise contributed by local merchants and door prizes will be presented. The event is FREE and will happen rain or shine.

  • Chestnut Festival
    Saturday, October 21, 2017, 12pm - 5 pm
    Location: Goose Watch Winery, Rt. 89 along the Cayuga Wine Trail (11 miles south of Seneca Falls, NY/35 north of Ithaca, NY
    Sample mouth-watering chestnut recipes while listening to live music.
    Admission to the chestnut Festival is FREE. Food and beverages will be available for sample and purchase.

  • New York Nut Growers Fall Meeting (Open to the public)
    Saturday, October 28, 2017, 9:30 am - 3 pm
    Location: Michael Kudish Natural History Preserve in Stamford, NY
    In addition to a tour of the Preserve, we will have talks on proper thinning around nut trees; a Web Soil Survey; the nutritional and health value of nuts; a preview of the Watershed Ag Council's new website, "My Woodlot"; and post-harvest procedures for nuts. We'll also have a sample tasting and discussion of this season's nut crops.
    Registration is $12.00. A check or money order made payable to "NYNGA" can be mailed to Jim Darling, NYNGA Treasurer, 1300 Spring St. Ext., Groton, NY 13073 - 8711.

  • Nut Bonanza and Fall Plant Sale
    Saturday, November 4, 2017, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
    Location: Twisted Tree Farm, 279 Washburn Rd., Spencer, NY 14883
    This family event is a celebration of the nut harvest, a chance to be a squirrel for the day! We'll be outdoors, roasting and cracking nuts all day, enjoying a bonfire, talking about trees, and tasting things like acorns, American persimmons, chestnuts, hickory nuts, butternuts, hazelnuts, and black walnuts.
    Stations are set up for you to experience everything from roasting chestnuts to pressing walnut oil. Kids are very welcome. Suggested Donation of $5-20 or bring a local food to share.

  • 5th annual Perennial Farm Gathering

    The Savanna Institute which works to lay the groundwork of widesperad agroforestry in the Midwest is teaming up this year with Green Lands Blue Waters Annual Conference.
    Farmers, scientists, and people with a general interest in perennial crops and pastured livestock all find it valuable to learn what other farmers are doing-what's working well and what needs more work.
